History

Mallikarjuna Temple (also called Mahanikareshwara Temple) is a revered temple of Lord Shiva on top of Mallappa Hill. It is located at a distance of 1 km from Sringeri Bus Stand in Karnataka. One has to climb 150 steps to reach this temple. Early mornings or late evenings are ideal to ascend the hill. The Rathotsava festival celebrated on the next day of Mahashivaratri is very famous. On Kartika Poornima day Deepothsavam is celebrated in a grand scale.
